The Master Lawn Slitter is the tool for all ambitious lawn enthusiasts.
Aeration is an important process for improving drainage, reducing compaction and thatch buildup in the lawn, and promoting lawn health. Another form of aeration is slitting.
On golf and football pitches in Germany, the so-called lawn slitting is an integral part of maintenance.
In England, the home of the perfect English lawn, turf slitting (also known as fineslitting) is also used on bowling alleys and cricket pitches. Suitable machines from SiSIS include the Autoslit and the SiSIS Multislit.
What are the advantages of using the Master Lawn Slitter for slicing?
It ensures a lush green lawn.
Advantages
- Loosens compacted soil and allows the lawn to breathe.
- Opens up the soil structure and improves drainage.
- Stimulates the formation of deeper roots that are better able to withstand summer drought.
- Promotes a more robust turf that is less likely to become bare in winter.
The continuous slits ensure maximum air and water absorption and trim the grass roots to stimulate strong new growth.
Slitting the lawn is like using a knife to cut into the soil, creating linear aeration slits. The deep, clean cut through the turf and root zone leaves only a thin slit on the surface of the lawn and minimal disturbance to the turf.
The Master Lawn Slitter is also equipped with rollers on both sides that smooth the ground after slicing.
Root tillering
Vertical cutting or slitting of the lawn trims the roots and stimulates the growth of additional root shoots. This increased root mass translates to optimized nutrient and water uptake. The result is a healthier, more resilient, denser, and lusher green lawn.
Soil air
Compared to a spiker or aerating roller, lawn slitting treats a significantly larger area. This allows more soil air to penetrate. The more soil air present, the more root growth is achieved. At the same time, soil organisms (edaphon) benefit, converting the thatch into nutrients usable by the lawn and thus breaking it down.
Regularly slitting the lawn promotes strong and healthy root growth of the grasses, thus improving drought tolerance and also helping rain or water/moisture to seep away faster.
How does the application work?
The frequency of slitting depends on the condition of the breed being treated and the soil, as well as the requirements of the specific location.
Weekly to monthly treatments are possible.
We recommend deeper slitting, especially in spring and autumn. This is precisely when root growth is strongest (see also Seasonal growth curve of grasses in cold zones for shoot and root development, above and below ground, according to Turgeon, 2012).
During the summer months, we recommend only cutting the surface (approx. 3 cm). Incidentally, the water from the thawing also directly benefits the lawn.
The central depth adjustment allows for easy setting of the slot depth. If the soil is too dry, light watering before slitting is recommended.
Additional weight can be achieved using commercially available paving stones in the dimensions 20x10x6.8 or 20x10x10.
Technical data:
- stainless steel rollers
- Split transport roller
- Central depth adjustment
- 88 knives
- Weight 35 kg
- 50 cm working width
What is the difference to spiking?
Spikes do not lead to additional tillering of the soil, as is the case with slitting.
The aerating roller, also known as a Sarel spiker, optimizes soil aeration. Its spikes create small holes in the soil, aerating it and improving water and nutrient absorption.
